This semi I had gone off the SB 99 bridge and was sticking straight up in the air. I tried to get closer but, police and firefighters had started shutting down all access points.
Delano Union School District to Hold POWER Up! Lights On Afterschool! Rally October 18
7,500 Rallies Nationwide Aim to Make Afterschool Programs Available to All
The Delano Union School District POWER (Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation) Afterschool Program will sponsor a Lights On Afterschool rally on Thursday, October 18 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Cecil Avenue Math & Science Academy. The rally will be one of more than 7,500 such events around the nation that day, the 13th annual Lights On Afterschool, organized by the Afterschool Alliance. Speakers in Delano, including State Assemblyman David Valadao, Ruth Leon from State Senator Michael Rubio’s Office, and Delano Mayor Grace Vallejo, will call for expanding afterschool opportunities so that every child who needs a program has access to one, and discuss the harm that results from budget cuts and freezes to these program. At the event, parents and supporters will sign a petition that urges lawmakers not to deny or divert funding for afterschool programs.
Participants in the Lights On Afterschool rally include over 800 Delano POWER Program students, DUSD School Board Members, as well as local business leaders, educators and other officials. The event will highlight three of the significant contributions that afterschool programs make to Delano: keeping kids safe and healthy, inspiring them to learn, and relieving working parents of worries about their children's activities during the afternoon hours. Hundreds of parents, supporters, and community members are expected to attend.
o	What: DUSD POWER Up! Lights On Afterschool! Rally
o	When: 4 pm – 7 pm, October 18, 2012

Traffic went from 4 lanes to 1 while we inched along for over an hour and a half Tuesday evening. When we finally arrived to the cause of the slowing, we saw a travel trailer on its side and an SUV teetering on the cement barrier over the side. Lots of skidmarks...no idea how it all went down or if there had been any other vehicles involved. However, the freeways are notorious for inexperienced drivers (or just plain stupid) who disobey the 55 mph speed limit for vehicles pulling trailers! Just saying.

Whitney Rios' march for Trayvon Martin will instead be held on Wednesday March 28, 2012 at 6pm. Sorry for the mistake.

My name is Whitney Rios. I am 15 years old and I believe that any one person can stand up and make a difference. Please join me in participating in a march for justice for the killing of Trayvon Martin. He was only 17 when his life was taken unlawfully and way too soon. Because of Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law, the man who took his life, George Zimmerman still walks free today and has not faced any criminal charges for his actions. He has stated that he felt his life was in danger, although the teen was reported to only be carrying a bag of skittles and an Iced Tea beverage when he was shot by Zimmerman. Trayvon was singled out because he was a young African American and because his hoodie caused him to look suspicious. Trayvon could have been any one of us, our brother, our son our nephew or even a cousin or close friend. He could have been you or me. Everyone, regardless of race age or gender needs to be outraged by what happened. We need to come together to support Trayvon’s family in their pursuit of justice for their son. Please come out with your own hoodie on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 6pm, to walk with me for justice for Trayvon and his family. The walk will be from the downtown Get bus transit center located on Chester Avenue, to Bakersfield City Hall located on the corner of Chester Avenue and Truxtun Avenue. Everyone is invited to come out and support this cause. I hope to see you there. I have created a Facebook event page:
