IHDA 2009 Picnic - Bocce Tournament

IHDA to Host Italian Picnic on May 16

The Italian Heritage Dante Association of Bakersfield, California, will host a family style Italian Picnic on Sunday, May 16, 2010 in their Italian Gardens at 4415 Wilson Road in southwest Bakersfield, from 12 Noon to 6 pm. Immaginate questo: (Imagine this) Parking and admission are free, as always!
President Katie (Canale) Ryan is heading up the event, which promises to be a lively and happy occasion for all. Event chefs will prepare deep-pit style barbecue to serve with the traditional pasta, salad and roll. Adult plates will go for $12, child plates $5, and pasta-only plates for $6. Other dining options will include a delicious Roman-style sandwich topped with a savory red meat sauce, for $5 each. We expect to have a variety of soft drinks, wine, beer and various mixed drinks as well. Our authentic and delizioso Italian desserts-prepared at home by Club members-promise to include such wonderful creations as mascarpone cupcakes, Sicilian cannoli, Sicilian fig cookies, anise biscotti, biscotti di Regina, almond cookies, various cakes, pies, brownies, cookie bars … Molti dolci!
The Master of Ceremonies will be our own Ken Bausano, IHDA Board member, who also leads a number of Jazz ensembles; including several big bands… we are sure he will provide top-notch music! Incidentally, past picnics have brought out the entertainer in some of us: Cantante Luigi Via Cava has often paid a visit, gifting listeners with his interpretations of several Italian songs--no one will forget his silky-smooth voice and charming personality!
There will be a Raffle with several gift baskets and artwork. Tickets will go for $1 apiece. We will have a Bounce House and various games for children. And, not the least, we will enroll teams to participate in the Bocce tournament, a cheerful and exciting event which promises to turn up a couple of superb winning teams: First and second place prizes will be awarded.
We look forward to our picnic, and we welcome all IHDA members and the entire community. For more details, please contact president, Katie (Canale) Ryan at 661-834-0641.
