Giving Party on October 3, 2009

The House of Unity (HOU) will hold their first annual Giving Celebration in honor of their 16th Church Anniversary. The event will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the south end of Cecil Park located on the corner of Cecil Avenue and Norwalk Street in Delano, CA.

The Giving Celebration will feature the free giveaway of food, drinks, clothing and more. Live entertainment will be provided by bands and musicians residing in and around the Tulare and Kern counties. Children will enjoy free face painting and jumping in a bounce house. Sponsors of the event include local vendors and supporters.

In prior years, HOU has celebrated its anniversary through a traditional three-day weekend celebration at its location at 869 Road 152 in the outskirts of the City of Delano. The three-day weekend would consist of Friday night youth-led concerts where over 120 teenagers from in and around Delano swarmed their outside stage facilities to enjoy a program filled with non-stop performing arts numbers. Saturday and Sunday’s would feature guest speakers and musicians, catered lunches and over 150 guests throughout the weekend.

This year, HOU decided to “break from this tradition” by bringing the celebration to the public on a neutral ground to instill a sense of community within the people who have helped to make the event possible and by blessing the guests, especially in the midst of today’s economic hardship. Pastor of HOU for over 11 years, Frank Edwards states, “A lot of people are making this event possible, and we just want the Community of Delano and neighboring cities to know that HOU’s hands are open, as are our doors.”

HOU is a non-profit, non-denominational church that believes in opening its doors and services to all people. Currently, HOU volunteers regularly at the Delano Browning Manor facility by singing and preaching the gospel. In the past, it has held a clothing giveaway at Cecil Park, provided caroling services and taught kids to play instruments and sing. Additionally, HOU encourages education and has built up alumni who have gone on to study at colleges such as UCSB, UCLA, various Cal State’s and Art Institutes. Many of the alumni have returned to Delano to team up with current HOU members to put on a great Giving Celebration especially for the Community. Join HOU at the event and experience the joy of true community and giving.
