Kern County Animal Control Introduces The
“Take My Buddy Home Too!” Program
Adopt one cat from any Kern County shelter and take home a buddy for free!
Hundreds of cats and kittens are waiting for loving forever homes in each of the three Kern County Animal Shelters. During the month of August, potential adopters have the perfect reason to visit the shelters to find their new furry friend – The Take My Buddy Home Too! Program.
“We are excited to offer this new program to the public. Starting August 1st and continuing throughout the month, cat lovers can adopt one cat from any of our shelters and take home a buddy at no additional cost,” stated Maggie Kalar, Marketing & Promotions Associate for the Department.
Adoption fees for male cats are $30 and $40 for female cats. Fees include the spay/neuter fee, first series of feline vaccinations, starter bag of Science Diet food, goodie bag with coupons and a pet related DVD*, free pet exam voucher* and a cardboard carrier*. (*While supplies last.)
Kern County Animal Shelters continue to receive an influx of cats and kittens during the summer months. Many arrive from unexpected litters and their owners do not want the added burden. Some are strays that were turned outdoors because people thought they would have a better chance at survival. And, others arrive at the shelter simply due to the fact that their owners are no longer able to care for them for whatever reason. The new program hopes to encourage cat adoptions and save lives.
“Companionship, health benefits, social interaction and devoted love are just a few of the benefits of having a single cat,” added Kalar. “Now just imagine what adding a second cat could do for your health and well-being!
Kern County Animal Control Shelters invite people to visit with the available cats and find two that are right for them. Every shelter cat deserves a loving, permanent home.
