Oildale

Oildale was once known for severe racism and violence towards minorities. Beardsley Street was the criminal heart of Oildale - drug dealers, arms traffickers, racist gangs such as the "Beardsley Street Krew" BSK and the "Nazi LowRidaz" NLR, and plenty of sex offenders to boot. Is this how we want to be known? I don't think so.
Today we are being treated like we are all criminals because we live here in Oildale. The police or sheriiffs treat us like low lifes and drugies. My little brother was hit by a car and when we took him to the hospital he told them what happened but they thought he had been in a fight and didn't believe he was hit by a car. Guess we are all liars to.
You can't walk down the street without having the police stop you asking what you're up to. Like people can/t just walk down the street without being up to no good.
A quote from a web page regarding Oildale "Generally speaking, if you can afford to live anywhere else (except Cottonwood), don't live here...

Consider yourself warned! "
"armpit of california isn't defined"
"one who lives within the boundaries of the 93308 zip code which is also referred to as oildale. the kids attend north high, which is synonymous with white trash. those outside of the 08 zip code use this term as an insult. some 08ers take it offensively, while most take pride in it for who knows what reason. "
I think it's time people grow up and give us respect. I work hard and I don't use drug's. I live in a good neighborhood and I like my neighbors. I'm not afraid to walk to the store after dark either. Not all 08ers are bad.
I think we need some positive attention here.

It might help if you used a spell checker, and made an argument for your local residents to stand up and clean your neighborhood. "Changes" require work. I don't see you doing anything here but complaining. Got any ideas on how you can enact change?

I live in Oildale also. I have been here since 1997. I have seen the problems our community has, such as those listed above. Even so, I love this community. We moved to Bakersfield in 1984 and have lived in different areas, this is our favorite.

Having been here in Oildale just a few months has already shown it's ugly face. Some people East of the 99 don't seem friendly toward minorities; and yes, I am a Black woman. Hopefully a positive change will come to Oildale soon.
