I was passing a police officer driving on China Grade Loop in my truck when I notice he was talking on his cell phone, not using a hands free device. I took my phone out at a traffic light and took a picture of him. I want to know do the police have a special exception to this law if not why are they not given hands free devices to use?

Well first of all before you post a picture like this you should do your research cause Law Enforcment are exempt from the hands free law as well as truck drivers.

First the picture is a Sheriff deputy, not a Police officer. Next emergency vehicles are exempt until july 2009.

I agree with you. I do see most law enforcement officers actually pulling off the road to use there cell phones, but there is always going to be that one or two or so that slip by. Doesnt the law pertain to them also?

The cell phone law has an exemption for Law enforcement, because their are many times officers cannot use the radio to get information. Alot of drug dealers and criminals have scanners and monitor law enforecment radio traffic, etc.
