Walk for Trayvon Martin Update

Whitney Rios' march for Trayvon Martin will instead be held on Wednesday March 28, 2012 at 6pm. Sorry for the mistake.

My name is Whitney Rios. I am 15 years old and I believe that any one person can stand up and make a difference. Please join me in participating in a march for justice for the killing of Trayvon Martin. He was only 17 when his life was taken unlawfully and way too soon. Because of Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law, the man who took his life, George Zimmerman still walks free today and has not faced any criminal charges for his actions. He has stated that he felt his life was in danger, although the teen was reported to only be carrying a bag of skittles and an Iced Tea beverage when he was shot by Zimmerman. Trayvon was singled out because he was a young African American and because his hoodie caused him to look suspicious. Trayvon could have been any one of us, our brother, our son our nephew or even a cousin or close friend. He could have been you or me. Everyone, regardless of race age or gender needs to be outraged by what happened. We need to come together to support Trayvon’s family in their pursuit of justice for their son. Please come out with your own hoodie on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 6pm, to walk with me for justice for Trayvon and his family. The walk will be from the downtown Get bus transit center located on Chester Avenue, to Bakersfield City Hall located on the corner of Chester Avenue and Truxtun Avenue. Everyone is invited to come out and support this cause. I hope to see you there. I have created a Facebook event page:

Thank you Whitney Rios for setting up the walk for Trayvon. We are a 65 yr old couple, we live about 70 miles away from Bakersfield, but we will be there with our old hoodies to show respect for Trayvon, his parents and for justice. United we stand

Whtiney: This is an honorable action your are leading. I live in Oxnard. While I cannot attend, I will be sharing with friends who live in your area. Please know that millions across America share your compassion for this terrible event.

WHITNEY: I give you a lot of credit for taking a step forward for man-kind and the human race to stand up for the rights of others. For a child your age to teach others' what is important in life.

Whitney, Well done for having the foresight and courage to organise this march in honour of Trayvon. We live in the U.K. and are outraged and saddened by what has happened. God bless you, Trayvon and his family. x
