Vandalized signs to be replaced, Scrivner says
Tehachapi, CA – Thanks to the efforts of Second District Supervisor Zack Scrivner, two signs destroyed by vandals will soon be replaced.
Both signs, placed in remote sections of Rosamond, warned off-road vehicle riders against trespass, alerted riders that the areas were restricted, and provided directions to nearby authorized recreation areas. The signs were among 12 which appeared throughout the county’s second supervisorial district last October. Several of the County-produced signs were vandalized soon after placement and residents in various areas have sought County help in fighting back against that vandalism.
Now, Rosamond residents are getting that help from Scrivner.
The signs were a signature achievement for many rural residents living under the ongoing harassment and pressure from illegal off-road activity. Designed and placed through the efforts of former field representative Mary Beth Garrison, the signs, under the full authority of the County of Kern, were strategically placed near residential communities, environmentally sensitive areas, including public lands off-limit to mechanized travel, sites featuring vulnerable archaeological and historical treasures, and land where fragile ecological systems would be destroyed by off-road abuse. Each sign bears both a warning regarding the “off-limits” character of the area, as well as clear directions to areas where off-roading is allowed.
