Former Huskies star Hope Solo and the rest of the U.S. women's soccer team escaped a shooting Tuesday in Vancouver because, as Solo tweeted, they were in a yoga session.

At about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, a man was shot and killed inside a restaurant at the Sheraton Wall Centre hotel, where the U.S., Cuban and Dominican Republic soccer teams were staying for this week's Olympics-qualifying CONCACAF tournament. None of the U.S. women witnessed the shooting, The Associated Press reported.

"Saved by our instant yoga session," Solo said on Twitter. "Was about to walk to starbucks when all hell broke loose in the lobby of our hotel! Life is precious…"

Police had not identified the victim and had no information on a suspect. A cracked window and bullet hole could be seen from outside the hotel. It marked the city's first homicide of the year.

Richard Scott, with Soccer Canada, said CONCACAF officials went to the hotel after the shooting to confirm no on was injured.

"I would imagine that probably 99 percent of the athletes would have been in their rooms at that time," he said.

Eight teams from are vying for two berths in the CONCACAF tournament. The U.S. opens on Friday against the Dominican Republic

Solo and her partner finished fourth on "Dancing With the Stars" last fall as she rode a wave of publicity following the World Cup.

Solo said the dancing kept her in shape, but she lost some of her muscle strength and had to gain it back for soccer.
