Lots to do in Kern County this weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- The perfect storm of local events this weekend in Kern County is making it one of the busiest tourist destinations of the year.

Wrestling, drag racing, tennis, fishing. You name it! It's definitely going on this weekend. 

It's time for the 2014 drag racing extravaganza, March Meet, this weekend at the famous Famoso Raceway. Thousands of race fans from all over the country and even the world will be there to get their classic car and hot rod fix. The jewel of nostalgia racing is a four-day event that wraps up Sunday.

Not to be over-shadowed is the county's largest high school sporting event of the year. The 11th annual CIF State Wrestling Championships at Rabobank arena. More than 560 wrestlers from 270 teams throughout California will lay it all on the line. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the tournament by the time it wraps up Saturday. 

A brand new tournament this weekend, The Bakersfield Tennis Open at the Bakersfield Racquet Club. It marks the first professional tennis event played in Bakersfield since 1965.
Tennis officials say up to 25 different Countries will be represented by tennis players between the ages of 18 to 25. Expect players ranked in the top 200 in the world to be on hand.
The Tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday, with finals resuming next week.

The Bakersfield City Firefighters Relief Association is hosting its 3rd annual Trout Fishing Derby at The Park at River Walk giving local kids a chance to fish with a firefighter and sportsmen a chance at catching prize fish ranging from $20 to $1,000.  More than 2,000 fish were loaded into the pond for the derby which will take place on Saturday.
