Jose Canseco coming to Bakersfield for summer homer tour

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Retired big league slugger Jose Canseco is coming to Bakersfield for a summer home run tour.

Mike Oz, an editor for Big League Stew on Yahoo Sports, reports Friday that Canseco is touring the U.S. and Canada from June to August in an effort to break records for longest softball and baseball homers.

He'll ride a 40-foot custom RV, along with with four dogs and three tortoises, to 17 cities, Oz reports. The tour begins June 17 in Minneapolis and ends Aug. 24 in Canton, Ohio.

The Bakersfield stop is slated for Aug. 5, and the Bakersfield Blaze minor league baseball team confirms via Twitter that Sam Lynn Ballpark will be used.

The former "Bash Brother" says via his management company that he hopes to hit 600-foot softball and baseball homers. The records are 510 feet (Bruce Meade) and 570 feet (Babe Ruth) for softball and baseball, respectively.

"He will be appearing at minor league ballparks and charity events challenging local sluggers as he attempts to break the official world record ..." according to Canseco's representatives, via Oz's report.
