BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Hero cat will become baseball cat for a night next week.

Tara, an Internet sensation for a YouTube video showing her saving her boy from a dog attack, will "throw out" the ceremonial first pitch at the May 20 Bakersfield Blaze minor-league baseball game.

The cat will get some help from her family, of course.

Jeremy Triantafilo, 4, was riding his bike Tuesday in his family's driveway when a neighborhood dog came from behind and bit down on his leg. The dog was violently pulling Jeremy down his driveway when his kitty, Tara, bolted to the rescue.

Tara plowed into the much-larger dog and chased it away. Home surveillance cameras captured the cat's heroic feat. The viral video has racked up more than 7.5 million views on YouTube in less than 48 hours.

The Blaze host the Lancaster JetHawks next Tuesday. The hero-cat ceremonial first pitch will be 7:15 p.m., with the game's first pitch at 7:30.

Any fan to bring unused animal toys or unopened animal food to the game will get half-price tickets. All pet food and toys collected will be donated to a local animal charity or shelter, according to the Blaze.
