BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Fans lined up Thursday night for the Bakersfield Blaze season opener against the Modesto Nuts.

“Opening night is always a great night for us that we couple with ‘Thirsty Thursday,’” said Bakersfield Blaze General Manager Liz Martin. “We’ve spent every year that I’m here trying to improve the product as best we can at Sam Lynn Ballpark."

Aside from the excitement, optimism is running high among players and fans alike.

“This year, I feel like we’re all getting along real well,” said Blaze pitcher Carlos Gonzalez. "I feel like we have good team chemistry, and once we get that out here on the field, it’s gonna be tough to beat us.”

Bobby Harris has attended every season opener since the Blaze became a Cincinnati Reds affiliate.

“It’s just a good energy," Harris said. "A lot of expectations are still high.”

Diehard Blaze fan Kenneth Eddy said he has attended every game since 1989, and he's glad it's finally here.
