BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Condors have named Troy Mann as head coach.

Mann, 43, has eight years of coaching experience, including the last four as an assistant coach with the Hersey Bears of the American Hockey League.

The Bears set the AHL record for wins in one season (60) and captured the Calder Cup with Mann on their staff in the 2009-10 season.

One of his primary responsibilities with the Bears was handling the team's penalty kill, which finished in the top third of the league in each of his four seasons, according to the Condors.

Mann, who also was an assistant coach for two AHL All-Star Games, will replace Matt O'Dette as Condors head coach. O'Dette amassed a record of 46-85-6-7 (.358) in his time in Bakersfield.

"Throughout this process the criteria that we established for our head coach was someone with professional head coaching experience, proven playoff success, and a person of high character," Condors general manager John Olver said in a news release Friday. "Troy already has eight years of professional coaching experience, and has had outstanding playoff success, including a 2010 AHL Calder Cup Championship. He is very well respected and connected within the hockey community. Every successful team has a foundation with a strong leader, and we believe that we have added that cornerstone with Troy."

Mann went 62-62-0-20 (.500) in two seasons, 2006-08, as a head coach for the Columbia Inferno. Both the Condors and Inferno are members of the ECHL, which calls itself the "premier AA hockey league."

Mann is a former Condor, as well, playing seven games in Bakersfield in 2000-01, the team said.
