Firefighters charitable fishing derby this weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield City Firefighters Relief Association is holdings its third-annual Trout Fishing Derby this weekend.

Organizers said they expect more than 1,000 folks fishing for 2,000 stocked trout at The Park At River Walk.

Proceeds from the event benefit local children and the association's charitable endeavors, including burn survivors and children from the Jamison Center. Money raised from the derby also helps Bakersfield Firefighters Burn Foundation, Make-A-Wish, Mendiburu Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Relay for Life, Links for Life, JDRF and more, according to the organizers.

The derby will run 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, with early registration at 5 a.m. Children up to age 15 will cost $10 to participate, and adults will cost $20.

Twenty-five trout will be tagged for prize money up to $1,000.
