BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two Bakersfield high schools are enjoying historic runs of success on the gridiron, advancing to the rarefied air of state playoffs.
The Bakersfield High School Drillers and Bakersfield Christian High School Eagles will compete Friday in California Interscholastic Federation State Regional Football Championship Bowl Games.
Only 20 teams throughout the state and in five divisions have earned such an honor. BHS, which last played for a state title in 1927, will make its first trip to a state bowl game since the current system started in 2006, according to The Bakersfield Californian newspaper. BCHS has never reached this level of competition, Eyewitness News sports anchor Greg Kerr said.
