BHS, BCHS headed to state football title games

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Both Bakersfield high schools to make the state football playoffs won their region bowl games Friday night and advanced to their division finals next Friday in Carson.

The Bakersfield High School Drillers (12-2, 5-0) were down 28-21 with 6:13 left in the game at Mission Hills (12-2, 3-1) in San Marcos. But, the Drillers stormed ahead, winning 35-28 with the help of a last-minute interception.

The Drillers will play Del Oro (13-2, 5-0) for the state Division I title.

In town, Bakersfield Christian High School (12-2, 6-0) hosted View Park (13-1, 3-0) at Centennial High School's field.

The BCHS Eagles took a 33-0 lead into the fourth quarter, winning 40-8.

BCHS will next get Central Catholic (14-1, 6-0) in Carson.
