Last audition: Ryan Mathews puts on show for NFL scouts at Pro Day
FRESNO, Calif. -- In his final audition before the NFL Draft, West High School product Ryan Mathews put on another athletic display for the scouts.

Mathews displayed his quickness and agility and likely improved his draft stock at Pro Day on the campus of Fresno State University.

The running back is ranked among the top players available in the draft at his position.

After putting up excellent numbers at last month's NFL Combine, Mathews did not have to compete in running drills today.

Never shying away from a chance to compete, Mathews ran the 40-yard sprint Wednesday and came away with strong times. Mathews registered times between 4.4 and 4.5 seconds.

Scouts and front office personnel from each of the 30 teams were on hand to watch the Pro Day events.

Fresno State head coach Pat Hill said he spoke with San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith for 45 minutes about Mathews.

The Chargers are one team expected to draft a running back in this year's draft.

The first round of the NFL Draft will be held Thursday, April 22, in New York City.
