Woman who pretended she wasn't hit-and-run driver gets probation
Rosemarie Aguinaga is sentenced Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, in Kern County court in Bakersfield, Calif., for a deadly hit-and-run crash.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A hit-and-run driver who returned to the scene and pretended to be an uninvolved concerned citizen was in Kern County court Monday to learn her fate.

Rosemarie Aguinaga struck 75-year-old Jose Angel Sanchez in May on Virginia Street east of Mt. Vernon Avenue. Sanchez died at the hospital about 30 minutes after the crash.

An officer on scene said Aguinaga likely wouldn't had been arrested if she hadn't fled. Witnesses said Sanchez walked in the roadway on a regular basis.

Aguinaga took a deal last month in court, pleading "no contest" to a count of hit-and-run.

Monday, she was sentenced to three years formal probation.
