BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Immigration-rights advocates were rallying Wednesday in Bakersfield in conjunction with the national Day of Action, joining events across the country to promote a pathway to citizenship, the local Service Employees International Union said.

SEIU Local 521 joined with Dolores Huerta Foundation, United Farm Workers Foundation and others in a voter-registration rally that started at 10:30 a.m. outside FoodMaxx, 4128 Chester Ave. They then went to register Elizabeth Camarena, "a new voter energized by the citizenship debate," at her nearby apartment on West Columbus Street, SEIU Local 521 said.

"Immigration reform advocates are calling for a comprehensive solution to fix our broken immigration system - one that raises the quality of jobs for all workers, keeps families together and creates a realistic roadmap for aspiring citizens," SEIU Local 521 said in a news release.
