BC students killed in crash: 'It's a tragic loss ... the good die young'
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — As best friends, Leonel Del Toro and Severo Ramirez did many thing together. They were also students at Bakersfield College.

On Saturday morning, both died in a car crash at the intersection of Columbus Street and University Avenue.

"It's a tragic loss ... the good die young," said Richard Villanueva, who was roommates with Ramirez.

Del Toro was an offensive lineman for the BC Renegades. He was a member of the 2012 State Championship team that won the crown against City College of San Francisco.

He could be a big, intimidating person on the football field. But off the field, it was a different story.

"He was very calm mild-mannered individual," said Villanueva.

Amanda Flores said her boyfriend, Ramirez, will be remembered as a good, matured person who would frequently try to make others smile.

The day of the accident, Flores said she had tried to get ahold of him, but to no avail. She ended up finding out about her boyfriend's death in a very unfortunate manner, on Facebook.

"One of my sister's told me that someone was posting 'rest in peace, Severo,' and she told me to check, and my family checked for me, and it was true," Flores said,

Friends are trying to raise funds for both families impacted. Del Toro leaves behind two small children - a boy, Zacarias, and a girl, Azalea.
