BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A reported explosion in a garage brought 25 firefighters to a northwest Bakersfield home Saturday morning, Kern County Fire officials said.

Kern County and Bakersfield City Fire Departments responded to a call in the 8000 block of Shoal Court just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday after they received numerous calls about smoke and the sound of a fire alarm coming from a residence in the area.

Fire crews arrived to find a two-story house up in flames with heavy smoke and fire coming from the house, garage and nearby vehicles. First responders tried to stop the fire in garage and the burning vehicles, while additional firefighters helped to stop it from engulfing the house.

Firefighters clearing the single-family home found a member of the family in the backyard with a couple of pets.

Fire officials said that no one was injured by the fire. There was, however, significant damage to the structure. The property destroyed in the fire is estimated at $100,000, and close to $100,000 worth so be saved.

Fire investigators are still investigating what caused Saturday morning's fire.
