BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A gas leak Wednesday morning on a construction site south of Bakersfield prompted a partial evacuation of a truck stop off Interstate 5.

A bulldozer hit a 2-inch natural gas pipeline near Caterpillar's new 400,000-square-foot parts distribution facility in the Tejon Ranch Commerce Center.

A side street by South Wheeler Ridge Road was shut down and some people were asked to leave the nearby TravelCenters of America truck stop.

Kern County firefighters, Kern County deputies and California Highway Patrol officers responded to the leak.

The scene was cleared by noon.
