Truck explodes at Kern Co. oil processing facility

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An explosion rocked an Aera oil processing facility Tuesday north of McKittrick and west of Buttonwillow.
The explosion engulfed a vacuum truck in flames around 5 p.m., according to the Kern County Fire Department. The fire spread to a nearby loading rack.
Crews, including a hazardous materials team, were able to deploy hose lines and gain control of the fire in just under an hour and a half.
The vacuum truck operator wasn't injured, the fire department said.
The cause of the explosion had not been determined as of Tuesday night.
