Teacher resigns after latest DUI arrest

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A teacher at Sillect Community School has submitted her resignation following an arrest for allegedly driving drunk.

Brandi Lynn Sherman, 38, was arrested Thursday. Two felony charges of DUI were filed Friday in Kern County court, along with a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license.

Sherman has a history of driving while impaired. DUI charges were brought against her on two occasions in 2011 and once last year, according to court records.

Sillect Community School offers year-round alternative education and is operated by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office.

Schools spokesman Rob Meszaros said Friday that Sherman tendered her resignation effective Sept. 30. She will be held out of the classroom until then, he said.
