LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a 38-year-old man has been arrested in central California on a murder warrant in a fatal shooting in a northwest Las Vegas apartment parking lot.

Brian Michael Beltran was arrested Wednesday in Fresno, Calif., where records showed he was also held at the Fresno County Jail on a probation violation pending a court appearance and his transfer in custody to Nevada.

In Las Vegas, Beltran faces charges in the slaying of 23-year-old Kenneth Mallet about 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Police haven't said what led to the shooting. But witnesses said Mallet argued with his assailant before he was fatally wounded at a complex on Smoke Ranch Road near Tenaya Way.

Mallet was pronounced dead a short time later at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
