BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Are you suffering from social media fatigue?
Well, if you are, you aren’t alone. A recent study by the Pew Research Center says that users are wanting to take a step away from their virtual lives.
Reasons vary, but most people say sites such as Facebook and Twitter are a drain of time. Digital distractions are doing damage to productivity at work and their lives at home, they say.
Aida Duran is a Bakersfield mother and says she is glad to hear that people are moving away from their electronic interactions and towards in-person interactions.
"I believe that it takes away from the quality of time that has to give to their children, to their family, and to their spouses," Duran says. "It's creating that lack of communication between families, and it's breaking them away from what's important."
Amber Chiang is Bakersfield College's social media manager, and she says she suffers from social media fatigue after running the college's multiple social media sites.
“I manage all of the social media sites for Bakersfield College, and it is not a 9-to-5 job by any means. I am answering Facebook questions at 10, 11 o'clock at night," she says.
