Shooting, stabbing in Wasco believed to be connected

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Kern County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a shooting and stabbing in Wasco.

Officials said 32-year-old Jose Alfredo Rodriguez was found shot Thursday evening at the intersection of 4th and D streets in Wasco. A second victim, identified as 24-year-old Jose Garnica, turned up moments later at a Wasco fire station, suffering from stab wounds.

Rodriguez was taken by ambulance to Kern Medical Center, where he later died. Rodriguez was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The coroner's office said Friday morning that Rodriguez died after becoming involved in an altercation. Sheriff's investigators said they believe the stabbing and shooting are connected.
