Sheriff's office: Man detained after Bakersfield standoff

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Authorities were involved Monday in a standoff with a man they believed was possibly armed with a gun.
Kern County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ray Pruitt said the suspect was seen holding a stick, later described as a broom handle, and was seen making motions to his waistband as though he also had a firearm.
The suspect, Robert Mendoza, was standing on the front lawn of a home at Water and Nelson streets in northeast Bakersfield before he was arrested around 2 p.m.
He didn't have a gun.
Pruitt said U.S. Marshals tracked the man to the Bakersfield house.
Mendoza was wanted for parole violation and allegations of assault with a deadly weapon. He now also faces possible charges of resisting arrest.
