Sheriff: Woman arrested for carjacking, another suspect at large

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Police arrested a woman involved in a carjacking after a short car chase ended in a crash Friday night, the sheriff's office said.

A man said that his car was stolen at gunpoint by man and a woman at the intersection of Oswell Street and Brundage Lane.

The man told officials that his attackers were a white male and a Hispanic female.

Later that day, the victim reported seeing his car near Niles and Fairfax Road. Deputies soon caught up with the car, and the Hispanic woman driving sped off down Fairfax.

After a brief chase, the driver crashed into a fence near Rosewood Avenue. Pursuing deputies caught the woman before she could flee the scene; the man had gotten away.

Deputies arrested the woman, identified as Chelsey Becas, 22, of Bakersfield, for possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police and hit-and-run.
