Sheriff: Man arrested for swinging sword at wife's head

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Deputies arrested a man they said he tried to hit his wife in the head with a sword Friday night, the Kern County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials said they got a call at around 7:20 p.m. from a woman saying her husband had been threatening her with a sword.

Deputies arrived and detained the man, later identified as William Ayala, 29, of Bakersfield.

During their investigation, Kern deputies learned that the altercation started a few blocks away on Dublin Manor. As the fight escalated, Ayala pinned his wife to the wall and began to strangle her, Kern County officials said.

According to a report from the sheriff, Ayala grabbed a sword and tried to strike her in the head with it. The woman avoided the blade, broke free of Ayala and fled for help, officials said.

Ayala was arrested and booked at the Kern County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and false imprisonment.
