Grove wants lawmakers to go part-time, cut $8k salaries

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Freshmen GOP Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, of Bakersfield, wants to make being a state lawmaker a part-time gig.

She's working to qualify a ballot measure that would cut lawmaker salaries from $8,000 to $1,500 a month. The Legislature would only meet 90 days a year, under Grove's plan.

If the attorney general approves the measure, supporters will need to collect more than 800,000 signatures to get it on the November 2012 ballot.
