Sex offender back in custody; facing possibly new charges

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A hunted sex offender is back in custody.

John Gonzales is a registered sex offender who disabled his ankle monitor. He was unaccounted for since at least early July, but the Bakersfield police Career Criminal Apprehension Team found and arrested him early Thursday.

Officers found 37-year-old Gonzales around 1:20 a.m. in the 500 block of Goodman Street.

Gonzales had an active parole warrant issued for his arrest.

Police said he's also facing charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, lewd and lascivious acts with a child, failure to comply with sex offender registration, possession of illegal narcotics, resisting arrest and violation of parole. A warrant, announced Wednesday, was issued for these allegations.

Concepcion Romero, 43, was also arrested on suspicion of being an accessory and harboring Gonzales.
