BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The American Red Cross is helping if you are looking for a missing family member in the Philippines.

According to the Red Cross, there are currently 1,200 evacuation centers housing more than 330,000 people left homeless by the typhoon.

Phone lines are down, so the organization has put together it’s family tracing service. It’s a new program called Restoring Family Links.

Amy Mayer of the Kern County Chapter said Tuesday that the program is thorough, designed to help reunite families separated by a major disaster.

If you know someone in the Philippines you are looking for and can’t reach, contact the Kern County Chapter of the American Red Cross at (661) 324-6427.

Mayer said they will put you in touch with case workers to help track family members.

"So far, we have connected probably a couple family members in our region," said Mayer, "so it’s still progressing and still building."
