BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A police pursuit that started in Porterville ended Wednesday morning about 50 miles to the south in Bakersfield.

California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Rodriguez said police in Bakersfield got involved around 1:20 a.m. Porterville police were chasing an assault suspect, he said.

The chase continued on southbound Highway 99 until the suspect's vehicle was stopped near the California Avenue exit in Bakersfield. Two people jumped from the suspect's vehicle and ran. The passenger was caught, but the driver got away, Rodriguez said.

The CHP withheld the suspect's name.
