Police chase turns deadly in east Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A woman died in a crash during a police chase Friday night after driver ran into a commercial truck trailer while trying to outrun patrol cars on Oswell Street, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Officers said the driver, later identified as Fredirico Anguiano, 37, of Bakersfield, was also hurt in the crash. He was arrested after being treated at Kern Medical Center.

The incident started at around 10:40 p.m. Friday when Anguiano sped off in his Chevy Blazer when officers tried pulling him over.

Anguiano was heading north on Oswell Street when he tried passing a car on the right shoulder of the road near Pioneer Drive. The SUV hit a big rig trailer parked on the side of the road and ended up hitting the vehicle he was trying to pass, the CHP said.

Official reports said that the impact sent the passenger, 26-year-old Guillermina Puentes, through the window and onto the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
