BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A woman was killed while trying to run across Highway 99 with a gas can Friday morning. She was hit by three passing cars, police said.
At around 6 a.m., a driver headed south on the highway said that a woman ran into the roadway directly in front of his Saturn. He said that the woman was running with a gas can.
The driver, who was going about 60 mph, said that he had little time to react and hit the woman.
The woman was pushed further into the roadway and was hit by a passing Ford Mustang and Toyota Corolla, police said.
Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
After hitting the woman, all three drivers stopped on the side of the road. Officers haven't charged any of the drivers involved in the incident.
Investigators are still looking into the death.
