CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. -- Police arrested a woman Friday after they caught her taking things from the trunk of a stolen car.

Officers received reports of a car parked on Neuralia Rd that matched the description of one reported stolen a short time earlier. They arrived to find Jennifer Heffernan taking things from the trunk of the car of the car, the California City Police Department said.

Police detained Heffernan after she reportedly told the officers that she had been driving the vehicle, which was confirmed as stolen.

She was taken to the Kern County Jail on charges of driving a stolen vehicle and possessing stolen property.

The vehicle was returned to its owner undamaged.

California City Police said that Heffernan, who was recently released from prison, is on Post Release Community Supervision. Officers also went to her home and found other items that they believe have been stolen.
