BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man wanted for shooting and killing a woman has turned up dead.

Maria Medina, 44, was found mortally wounded Monday afternoon on South Eye Street.

Police said Tuesday that they identified 52-year-old Adan Medina Miramontes as the suspect. Hours later, the Kern County coroner's office said Miramontes was found dead in a vehicle near Hermosa Road and Tejon Highway. Police said he died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police haven't released information on a suspected motive for Monday's shooting. They also haven't commented on a possible relationship between Medina and Miramontes.
