BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A reputed gangster and shooting suspect was arrested early Tuesday following a SWAT standoff with police.

James Lamar Thomas, 26, was wanted in connection with a shooting that happened around 1 a.m. April 20 on the 1900 block of Eye Street. At that time, police arrested Carlos Robertson, of Bakersfield, who claimed to have been shot at and reportedly returned fire on an unknown suspect in self-defense.

Tuesday morning's arrest started with a traffic stop in the 700 block of K Street. The passenger took off, and police tracked him to a nearby house.

Thomas voluntarily exited the home and was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, participation in a criminal street gang, evading an officer and a weapons violation.
