BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Police indicated Friday that they could be closing in on a serial rapist.
Three rapes have occurred in the last two months in east Bakersfield. The suspect description and method of attack are similar in each case.
Police said Friday that forensic evidence has been submitted and is being analyzed. The Joint Task Force - police and the Kern County Sheriff's Office have teamed on the case - is awaiting results to advance its investigation, police said.
Investigators said there was a sexual assault on July 18 in the 4300 block of Columbus Street. An assault on Virginia Avenue happened on Aug. 1. The most recent rape was Aug. 19 in the 200 block of Quantico Avenue.
In all three cases, the women lived in an apartment complex and all were bound and then sexually assaulted.
Police offered the following details about the rapist:
- Late 20s to 30s
- 5-foot-8 to 6-foot tall
- Medium build
- Wore a black ski mask, dark hooded sweatshirt and shorts
- Used handgun in the most recent attack
The Secret Witness program is offering rewards of as much as $5,000 for each case for information that can be used to catch and prosecute the rapist, according to police.
