BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Tehachapi-based Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue has been working around the clock to save the lives of badly burned puppies from California City.

Monday night, the puppies were transferred to Thousand Oaks to receive treatment in a hyperbaric oxygen unit.

Eyewitness News has learned that two of the surviving dogs were responded well to treatment, but one of the puppies did not and had to be euthanized Tuesday morning.

Last week, nine dogs were severely burned after the shed they were being housed in accidentally caught fire. Now, only two are still living.

The two remaining puppies have third-degree burns across 75 percent of their bodies. After the story of the puppies' plight got out Monday, Marley's Mutts raised almost $10,000.

Donations are still needed to cover the cost of the dogs' treatment, which runs about a $1,000 a day.
