BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — One man was killed and another man was injured Wednesday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Oswell Street near the Edison Highway overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 5 A.M.

Joaquin Barrera Gomez, 23, of Bakersfield, was driving a 1999 Honda Civic when he failed to take a curve heading northbound on Oswell, authorities said.

The vehicle collided with a metal guardrail and overturned, ejecting both occupants.

His passenger, Robert A. Cano, 20, of Bakersfield, was transported to Kern Medical Center with "major injuries," according to officials.
