Olympic spirit comes to Bakersfield school
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A local day care and preschool hosted its own Special Olympics on Monday morning.

Elijah Adames, 6, reflected on a gold medal day. “I was so excited for the Olympics,” said Elijah.

He goes to Special Start Preschool and Caring Corner Daycare. The facility cares for medically fragile children, like Elijah, who needs to be connected to an oxygen tank all the time.

Elijah competed in the ring toss, obstacle course and scooter race.

Megan Gretona is the director at Special Start.

“We just like to make ourselves part of the community in fun ways,” Gretona said, “let everyone know what we’re doing for children who are medically fragile.”

“They just enjoy playing the games,” she said, “being together and getting to do fun things.”

Elijah echoed those sentiments.

“I had a great day today with my friends,” he said.
