BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A suspect in a home-invasion burglary was shot Friday on Chimayo Street in east Bakersfield.

Police said two suspects broke into a home. The alleged burglars were seen by a neighbor carrying bags out of the home.

The witness allegedly told the two men to stop, then fired two shots.

According to an officer, the men got back into their car and pulled out of the driveway.

As they pulled out, police said the witness fired three more shots at the car.

Police said the shooter believed he had hit one, maybe both, of the men.

Shortly there after, a shooting victim was checked into Kern Medical Center.

Detectives said the car that dropped that victim off matched the description given for the car at the scene of the shooting.

Detectives said that victim, who was last reported in critical condition and was undergoing surgery, could be one of the suspects.

The shooter was detained by police.

Police are looking for the second suspect and said the investigation is ongoing.
