Nebraska sex assault fugitive arrested in Kern County

McFARLAND, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — U.S. Marshals working in Kern County have arrested a sex assault suspect from Nebraska.

Mario Zepeda, 54, was accused of sexual assault of a 5-year-old child in Hall County, Neb. He was arrested and released on bail in 2011 pending trial, but he left Nebraska and has been hiding from authorities, according to the Marshals.

Authorities got a lead that Zepeda might be staying in Kern County. He was tracked to an unspecified company in McFarland, where he was taken into custody Monday.

Zepeda is awaiting extradition to Nebraska, the Marshals said.
