Mother's Day stabbing and shooting under investigation by KCSO

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Deputies investigating a report of shots fired early Mother's Day  discovered a stabbing victim and then a victim of a shooting.

Deputies responding to the 2:15 a.m. call found a large group in the 700 block of Sterling Road and discovered that during a fight between several women, one woman was stabbed in the hand, according to a Kern County Sheriff's Office news release. She was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

While investigating the fight and stabbing, deputies learned a man had been shot and taken to the hospital by private vehicle. He is reported in critical condition. That prompted the case to be taken over by homicide detectives.
