BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A store clerk fought back during an alleged armed robbery Thursday night, shooting one of two masked suspects.

The would-be robbers entered Union Market, off South Union near Belle Terrace, around 8:30 p.m. One of the suspects hit one of two clerks on the head, and one of the suspects pointed a gun at the clerks, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

One of the clerks grabbed a gun and shot a suspect. That suspect was eventually taken to a hospital for treatment. The other suspect got away.

The sheriff's office withheld the names of both suspects, saying only that they were two black males.

The investigation is still underway, and detectives are looking into the possibility that an earlier robbery at a market on 4th Street near Union is related.
