Man shot, killed in Bakersfield neighborhood

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A man was fatally shot Saturday night in an east Bakersfield neighborhood, Kern County Sheriff's Office said.

KCSO deputies responded to a shots fired call in the 2100 block of Monterey Street just before 8:40 p.m. Saturday. They arrived on scene to find a adult Hispanic male laying in the road with gunshot wounds in his back and legs.

Emergency responders took the man to Kern Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Witnesses said that a dark colored Honda Civic fled the scene driving east on Monterey directly after the shooting. KCSO detectives are continuing the shooting investigation.
