Man facing 19 felonies in torture case returns to court

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man facing 19 felony charges was back in Kern County court Friday, accused of torturing a woman over a two-day period.

Lucas Webby was arrested late last month. Investigators believe Webby punched, kicked, strangled and hit the woman with a baseball bat. Deputies also found methamphetamine and marijuana during a search of Webby's home.

Among the numerous charges: attempted murder, torture, inflicting corporal injury on spouse or cohabitant, willful cruelty to a child, and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

Friday was Webby's pretrial arraignment. His felony arraignment was July 1. A readiness hearing is scheduled for October, and a jury trial is scheduled for November.
